Hi, How Can We Help You?

British Nationality

British Nationality

There are different ways to apply for British nationality based on your personal circumstances. You can either be Naturalised (for adults only) or Registered (for children and adults) as a British citizen.

Registration

If you are born in the UK after 1983, you do not automatically get British citizenship. It will depend on your parents’ circumstances. However, you may be eligible to apply for British nationality through registration after 10 years of continuous residence in the UK, changes in your parents’ circumstances or by discretion.

Naturalisation

Adults with Indefinite Leave to Remain in the UK who do not have any unspent convictions can naturalise as British citizens under two different routes.

If you are married to a UK national and had leave to remain in the UK as spouse before your settlement, you can apply for naturalisation once you obtain indefinite leave to remain. There is no need to have had Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) for a clear 12 months providing you meet all the requirements.

If you are not married to a UK national, you must have had indefinite leave to remain in the UK for at least 12 months before you can apply for naturalisation providing you meet all the requirements.
